Coface sees good business amid recession

This week’s White Collar guest is Jérôme Cazes, the chief executive of French credit insurer Coface. Mr Caazes is a former civil servant in the Ministry of Finance during the 1980s. He joined Coface in 1989 and became its CEO in 2007.
Credit insurance is a type of insurance products sold to traders that the policyholders will receive compensation if their buyers could not pay their bill in case of bankruptcy or delayed payment for several months.

In this video, In today’s program, Mr Cazes shares his view on the market outlook and whether the business sector needs to pay more attention to credit risks of their buyers.

New CEO of AXA Hong Kong has big ambitions

This week’s White Collar guest is newly appointed CEO of AXA Hong Kong, Stuart Harrison. Although the financial tsunami has affected every company, the insurance giant has shown resilience and was able to bounce back quicker than other companies.

Harrison attributes this to AXA’s multi-distributional capacity and did not go deep into the investment-linked products – one of the main reasons behind AIG’s downfall.

Monkey business with Jane Goodall

In the early days of her career, the Tanzanian wilderness set the scene for Jane Goodall’s pioneering research into chimpanzees that would see her become the world’s best known primatologist.

These days the jungles of the world’s classrooms provide the backdrop to what could be her most important work to date. During her visit to Hong Kong last week, at a talk arranged by AmCham, Dr Goodall explains that she now devotes her life to raising awareness of our planet’s plight through her Roots & Shoots initiative.

Dr Goodall believes schools are not doing enough to teach children about the environment. She would like to see parts of the Roots and Shoots programme incorporated into Hong Kong’s school curriculum.

Ken Hung Cheuk-lap (???) is back in business

Cantopop star Ken Hung Cheuk-lap recently recovered from hydrothorax, a delibitating illness that attacks the lungs. As a result, both his TV series and promotion of the film ‘Happily Ever After’ (???????) were delayed after being hospitalised in Taiwan.

The singer and actor has now returned to Hong Kong and is promoting his new film out in late August. He is also seeking to return to the studio to record a new album.
